Goals For Galle
Project Galle received a multitude of letters from local schools and sports clubs requesting our help to renovate, replace and improve their sports facilities that had been damaged, lost or destroyed by the tsunami.
Open spaces, playgrounds and sports fields with school and community based programs play a vital role in the lives of children and adolescents, providing a safe arena in which to meet and play. ‘Goals for Galle’ primary objectives are to renovate, rebuild and provide safe, secure sporting environments, supply sports equipment packages and organise weekend football coaching programs for girls and boys. This would enable young people to become involved and engaged in healthy recreational activities, creating the possibility to improve the physical, psychological, emotional and social development amongst children and adolescents while helping to promote social harmony, gender equality and cross religious interaction through play.

The programme, as outlined in the December Newsletter, was funded in `05 by Save the Children in Sri Lanka, with strong interest for support and further funding to carry the project through into 2006.
