Permanent Housing
Project Galle 2006 (PG06) is fortunate to be in a position where it can carry the permanent housing baton, handed over by PG05, forward into the new year. All of the houses that PG05 started in Katugoda have now been completed, this is a total of 25 complete rebuilds and 77 partial rebuilds. Add to that the 23 partial and complete rebuilds in the area north of Hikkaduwa and at Boossa and one can guage just how busy the housing team has been. 2006 is going to be just as busy.
As Katugoda was winding up the decision was made to branch out a bit and to start accepting applications from people living in other areas, as well as those in Katugoda. We now have over 100 applications from people who have houses that were either partially damaged or totally destroyed in the tsunami. The 06 housing team, which consists of Allen, Faye, Priankara (Mr P) and Dimutu, are now assessing those applications and once the next phase of funding kicks in we will be ready to go.
