Playgrounds
PG06 has made funding available for the enhancement of the children’s playground at Dharmapula Park in the centre of Galle town.
Under water during the tsunami, the playground has been reinstated with substantial play equipment generously donated by the American people through a special partnership between Galle Municipality, Sarvodaya, USAID, American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee and the Bush-Clinton association.
This pristine equipment does however look somewhat sterile on an otherwise undeveloped site and large areas remain unutilised. PG06 therefore identified a need for covered seating to enable parents to keep a watchful eye on their offspring at play, and upon which families could picnic together.
Designs have now been prepared for introducing three seating elements into these vacant areas. To complement the playground environment, a fun higgledy-piggledy arrangement of seating has been designed based upon a concept used in a London adventure park.
Contractors are being invited to price the work, and construction will commence once municipality approval is received for the scheme.
